Who is the Poet?
Dearest reader, I am the poet-
I am like you; I love the written word, a good cup of tea, and the undeniable excitement one feels from receiving a letter. PenPal Poetry was started from an idea and an observation…
When I was a girl, the most exciting time of any holiday (especially birthdays) would be running to frantically sort through the mail in anticipation that there would be a letter or postcard addressed to me. Perhaps you as well recall a time when the child in you ran to the mailbox to see if someone had taken the special care to send a letter your way.
At some point in my adult life, it came to my attention that I had received fewer and fewer letters as the years went on. I began to turn the mystery of where letter writing had gone over and over in my head. As thrilling as it can be to receive a text, nothing has quite the thrilling appeal of ripping open a letter addressed specially to you. Not too long ago, it was letters that hid within their folds the secrets, joys, pains, and news sent between confidants. A certain freedom was granted to a letter writer. After all, you can’t screenshot a letter…
A Poem for your eyes only
Each monthly letter contains an original poem written by me, The Poet. A poem never read or published before that reflects on the tragedies or revels in the joys of life.
discover a household name
Discover (or rediscover) a famed poet or writer with the selection of a poem or musing from those famed and forgotten.
Unlock a piece of historical gossip
Each letter shall unmask a piece of seldom-talked-about historical gossip. From scandal to intrigue, this column will have you on the edge of your seat!
Be the recipient of a mystery gift
It is well-agreed upon that a picture is worth a thousand words, so what would this written treasure trove be without a visual token to remind one of the letter he or she received?
About us
To my dear reader, whomever you may be…
Penpal Poetry is a woman-owned and run business delighting in spreading the written word to eager ears and curious hearts. It was begun out of a severe nostalgia and deprivation of physical letters, and aims to entertain, educate, and share all the joy, sorrow, and gossip of history (whether the history be of today or of 43 BC).
